According to new research in Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, which was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, using a tablet or a mobile phone before going to sleep directly affects your wakefulness the next day.

Of course, research has reconfirmed that minding your mobile device until late at night makes it difficult to fall asleep. Results were the same for those who use laptops, smartphones and similar mobile devices before bedtime.

This is not the first study in this area

According to Dr. Anne-Mary Chang, associate neurologist in previously mentioned institution, which was part of the team conducting the research, artificial light from electronic devices affects wakefulness, sleepiness and reduced the levels of melatonin, which leads to increased risk of cancer.

It is interesting that this study is based on a comparison between reading printed books and reading from a device that emits artificial light.

Those who want to take advantage of the night to restore power, and have a habit to read something before going to sleep, be sure to use a printed book and forget the screen as a source for reading.

Dr. Chang said that the dream is essential to our health, because the poor quality of sleep can lead to some serious health problems such as diabetes, obesity, and even some cardiovascular diseases and disorders.

Suppression of melatonin production is associated with an increased risk of certain cancers.
