You badly, handle the numbers? The culprits are thyroid hormones

The hormone thyroxine (T4) is the most important product of the thyroid, a lack of this hormone in pregnant women can cause lower understanding of mathematics of a child.

Researchers at the Dutch Medical Center have found that children of women with low levels of thyroid hormone are in average of 60 percent weaker in mathematics than children whose mothers had normal levels of these hormones, according to the conclusions of the study published in the European Journal of Endocrinology.

Although previous studies have indicated that disrupted hormone levels of pregnant women may adversely affect the mental development of the child, this is the first study to reveal the impact when it comes to the teaching material for children, writes Daily Mail.

Lead researcher Martijn Finken explained that the researchers measured the levels of thyroxine in 1196 women in the 12th week of pregnancy.

After the birth of children, they were accompanied by their development up to the age of five, and the results revealed a connection balance disorder of thyroid hormone and the child’s “torment” with the numbers.
